Last update: March 20th, 2023

  • Peru back open 100% - Machu Picchu OFFICIALLY open again as of Feb 16th, 2023!
  • All major international airlines operating to Peru as normal
  • Protests that happened in December 2022 in places like Juliaca have passed, new elections called for Dec 2023, no issues expected in meantime
  • Recommended to book Machu Picchu in advance as demand is coming back strong for rest of year
  • Peru Hop offering free cancellation up to end of 2025 if you need to change your trip for any reason

Peru is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, home to not only Machu Picchu, but Huacachina Desert Oasis, Lake Titicaca, Rainbow Mountain, and more. Unfortunately, like in almost any country, protests can happen for a number of reasons (like we have seen in France, the USA, and the UK recently). These protests NEVER look to cause issues for tourists but of course, strikes at airports, for example, can cause problems, which is unfortunately what happened here in December 2022.

However we are happy to say Peru is fully back to normal with 2023 expected to be a great year for tourism as the country grows in popularity due to having so many incredible attractions in 1 place.
