About Peru Hop And Its Founders

We started Peru Hop to provide travelers with a convenient, safe, and affordable way to explore Peru. Our personal experience showed that while Peru boasts stunning scenery, for tourists getting around the country can be stressful and complicated. This is due to its unreliable transportation systems, unsafe taxis, and the lack of English speakers.

As well as this, there are some places impossible to get to on public transport and many tourists who have been to Peru actually have seen less than half of what this country has to offer . Peru Hop is all about discovering the REAL Peru through the eyes of a local Peruvian.

Our local Peruvian experts know this country much better than any guidebook, blog, or TikTok video. On top of this, they share personal stories of what life was like growing up in Peru and what is like living here now, giving you a real authentic insight into the locals and their country.

Peru Hop offers two types of trips in Peru:

1: Hop on Hop Off Travel across the whole country from Lima to Cusco (Machu Picchu) or vice versa

2: One Day Trips from cities such as Lima and Cusco, ideal for those flying in Peru

As one of the Irish co-founders of Peru Hop, I, Will, travelled across South America in 2010 and met a Peruvian girl who convinced me to come back to Peru for a vacation in 2011. She showed me the beauty of Peru, its rich culture and history, and introduced me to some of the best local cuisines. I was blown away by how amazing Peru was and realized that my previous 10-day trip had only scratched the surface of what the country had to offer.

Eventually, she convinced me to move to Peru in late 2012. Before I moved, I took a bus tour in New Zealand called Stray, which turned out to be a hop-on, hop-off service that covered the entire country. It was the perfect balance of having a guide, meeting new people, and having the freedom to do what I wanted. I thought this concept would work well in Peru, where taxis are unlicensed and public transportation can be dangerous or confusing, and where other legitimate tour operators charge high fees.

Upon moving to Peru, I was inspired to bring the hop-on, hop-off concept to the country, given the lack of safe and reliable transportation options for tourists. I came up with the idea of Peru Hop, but I was initially unsure whether I could make it a reality, given that I had very little knowledge of running buses across Peru at the time!

However, with the help of friends and co-founders Pete (an Englishman living in Peru), Paolo (my Peruvian partner), and Conor (a childhood friend from Ireland), we managed to launch our first bus on October 28th, 2013, but it took time for the concept to catch on. We relied on word-of-mouth marketing, handled most aspects of the business ourselves, and treated every passenger who travelled with us like royalty. Today, we have a fantastic, dedicated local team of guides and customer service agents who are proud to share their knowledge and represent their country.

Since our humble beginnings in 2013, we have now transported over 250,000 (and counting!) happy travellers across Peru and Bolivia. Whilst we may have grown since then, we are still dedicated to ensuring that our passengers have the most authentic and memorable experience during their time here.

At Peru Hop, we have a golden rule: all of our guides must be Peruvian. This ensures an authentic and insightful experience for our passengers. Our guides will become your friend and share their first-hand knowledge of what life is like in Peru, where the minimum salary is $300 a month (although Peru Hop pays more than this).

In addition to being proud Peruvians, our guides have excellent English (if they can understand the thick Irish accents of two of our founders, then they can understand any accent!) and have an exceptional knowledge of Peru’s history and culture. And if you ask nicely, they might even teach you some salsa moves or some Spanish phrases to help you navigate your way around the country.
